You can save a life

In Sweden, someone has a stroke every 17 minutes. Strokes are often completely unexpected. Receiving care quickly can save a life. All that is needed to save a life is to recognize the symptoms and call 112 directly.

Discover a stroke in time

Using the test below, you can discover the symptoms and call 112 if you suspect a person has had a stroke.

Face

Can the person smile and show his/her teeth? If one side of the mouth droops – call 112!

Limb Arm/Leg

Can the person lift the arms and keep them up for 10 seconds? If one arm falls – call 112!

Speech

Can the person repeat a simple phrase like “The weather is nice today”? If the person slurs or cannot find the words – call 112!

Time

Every second counts. Never hesitate. Call 112 directly.

Why do so many wait to raise the alarm?

To begin with, the symptoms may be easy to ignore. Some people choose to rest for a while and wait for the symptoms to disappear. Others do not want to make a fuss. But a person who has a stroke always needs emergency hospital treatment.

As soon as a person shows the symptoms of a stroke – always call 112 directly.

Stroke in brief

The brain needs oxygen in order to work. Stroke – bleeding or a blood clot in the brain – hinders the supply of oxygen to the brain. For every minute that passes, millions of brain cells die and the functions of the brain are reduced. This can lead to serious brain damage or at worst death. But today there are lots of effective treatments for people who seek help immediately.

About Nationella strokekampanjen

The aim of the campaign is to save as many people as possible to a better life by halving the time from symptoms to alarm. In order to do this, we need the help of everyone in Sweden. The more people to discover the symptoms in time and call 112 directly, the more people we can save.

The campaign is backed by Sweden’s county councils and regions.
